ACT Prep
Did you know...
- All colleges across the United States will accept an ACT score in lieu of an SAT score
- Three scores on the ACT are averaged – a strength in one area can compensate for a weakness in another
- Only 1/3 of the ACT composite score comes from the Math score, whereas the SAT total score is half Math
- The ACT Science section is optional but recommended for some students who are strong readers and excel in their science courses and are considering a career that utilizes this knowledge
- Many colleges will “superscore” ACT subscores from several sittings. Check each college's website for admission requirements
- Almost all colleges do NOT require the optional ACT essay
- We strongly recommend that all students take the ACT in the paper-and-pencil format since there is only 1 online test available for practice and the online test is clunky!
ACT Course Length
The enhanced ACT is shorter in length so our ACT Course is now five 1.5-hour classes over five weeks. This allows students time to learn a new way to take the ACT and then practice implementing these tools.
Class Format
At Test Preps, we believe small group instruction is the right way to prepare for the ACT. Each class begins with a mini-lesson that teaches strategies that are specific to the four sections of the ACT. Incorporating guided practice and interactive drills, our program reviews Math and ELA content that students may have forgotten. All students conference with the instructor to set goals and then check their progress.
Materials
The Official ACT Prep Guide (Wiley) is included in the cost of the course. We will also provide a curriculum folder with ACT preparation materials.
Homework
Approximately 4-5 hours of weekly homework is assigned at each class. Success in our ACT program depends on the work a student puts in at home to practice and internalize the great strategies we teach. Students must conscientiously complete practice tests under timed conditions, score the test, read answer explanations, redo errors, and make margin notes to learn from their mistakes.
Attendance
Attendance is mandatory because each lesson builds upon the previous class. Missed classes must be made up before the following class at an additional cost of $125 for a 1.5-hour session.
Cost
The cost of our ACT course is $575. A $25 discount is available if a student signs up with a friend!
Keep in mind that missed classes must be made up before the next class with an additional fee of $125 for a 1.5-hour private session.
